HCT World Championships announced

  • Location: Taiwan
  • April 24-27
  • Top 4 winners from each of the HCT seasonal championships (Summer, Fall, Winter)
  • $1,000,000 prize pool – Winner, $250,000, 2nd – $150,000, 3rd/4th – $100,000

Year of the Dragon announcements

  • 9 cards being sent to the Hall of Fame
    • Baku the Mooneater
    • Genn Greymane
    • Naturalize (Druid)
    • Doomguard (Warlock)
    • Divine Favor (Paladin)
    • Gloom Stag (Druid)
    • Black Cat (Mage)
    • Glitter Moth (Priest)
    • Murkspark Eel (Shaman)
  • New paid single player content
    • 5 chapters (1 is free)
    • Earn packs and more
    • First solo adventure launches about a month after the first expansion
    • You can then unlock additional chapters as they are released for 700 gold each or purchase the whole thing for $19.99.
    • Each chapter comes with 2 all-new characters to play, each with 3 Hero Powers and four starting decks to unlock.
    • Complete each chapter to earn 3 card packs from the new expansion.
    • If you complete all five chapters, you get a card back and a Golden Classic pack.
  • Arena Rotations
    • The Arena draft pool will contain the following sets
      • Basic
      • Classic
      • Curse of Naxxramas
      • Whispers of the Old Gods
      • Mean Streets of Gadgetzan
      • The Witchwood
      • The first expansion set
  • Fireside Gatherings
    • Pre-release parties of all sizes will continue where you can open your packs ahead of time and play with them at the party for all of this years expansions.
  • Rerolling Legendary Quests
    • You can now reroll Legendary quests.  It consumes the reroll for the day
  • Random card backs
    • There will be a new option available for Random card backs. Changes the card back each match automatically
  • Smarter Deck Building
    • The deck helper suggestion tool when completing decks, will be getting an upgrade.  New details to come in the future.
  • Winning a game in the Arena will now count towards the total win count of your Golden Hero.
  • Logging into the game between March 25 and April 2nd, you will get 1 pack from the Journey to Un’Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, and Kobolds & Catacombs.
  • And a special Tavern Brawl, Brawl Block – Year of the Mammoth, where only cards from those expansions are allowed.

Shacknews spoke with Mike Donais about the upcoming changes to cards

  • Doomguard was replaced because of it’s powerful impact and they can replace it later with another card.
  • Druids are more about mana creation, not removal. That’s why Naturalize was moved out.
  • They did talk about removing Malygos, but decided against it again this year.
  • Mind Blast’s OTK potential is reduced by the rotation of Shadow Visions, however they are watching it.
