Welcome to the Legend of the Innkeeper.  We’re glad you could join us for our 76th episode.

This week we are talking about…

This is our first ‘official’ episode of 2016 and with this episode, we have a few changes that are happening with the show. As you already noticed, we have a new voice on the show and one missing. If you didn’t listen to last week’s episode, the combined episode with Hero Power, we talked about one of the major changes which is that Ariannwyn is going to take a step away from the show. As sad as that might be, we have someone new that is going to take over her spot.

Introducing, SquishieDragon!

SD: Background, Hearthstone experience, Questions?

We’re super excited about these changes because of what we heard from you, the listener. At the end of 2015 we hosted our very first Listener survey. I have to say we really got some great responses. I want to first say thank you to those of you who took a few minutes to answer the survey. The information you provided us will prove invaluable as we continue into 2016. It helps us better understand what you want to hear and how we can be helpful to the community.

Speaking of the survey, I want to just cover a few results from the survey that I thought were quite interesting. I’m not going to cover every question, since that would take up most of the show and I don’t think it would be all that entertaining.

Many of the questions were just your thoughts about how we can improve the website and the quality of various aspects of the show. I thought it was interesting that we scored really well in the content and hosts categories and not so good in the Video Quality scores (for the Twitch stream). I don’t blame you on this and we’re working to fix that but we have some physical limitations that we have to work around in the future. We’re at the mercy of our ISPs on that front. What I am also surprised by is that we got pretty good scores on Length of Episodes. Only 1 person gave us a poor rating on that.

I asked the following question. What do you like MOST about the podcast. For the most part, the answers were pretty much the same. Down to earth, easy to relate to, friendly, etc. Here are a few of the comments:

I love that you don’t go over the casual players head with a huge amount of “jargon”, and I’m actually able to learn things

I really enjoy the casual friendly and family atmosphere of the podcast. I really enjoy how you look out for us casual hearthstone players. Each person brings their own special touch to the show. I never miss an episode. Keep up the great work. Great job team.

Some great input and comments. I also asked the question, What do you like LEAST about the show. And we got some great responses. I also want to say I appreciate the honest comments. It helps us avoid the more painful parts of the show.

Some of the more common responses, were:

Talking about other games, Heroes of the Storm, WoW, etc.

Also numerous mentions about Ariannwyn  and how we should leave her alone and let her talk! Haha.

Here are a few more:

Tough question. Kind of like asking a parent who is their least favorite child. I’d like to hear more e-mails and calls on the show. I’m sure the reason you don’t have many is not many people send them in, but I think it would be nice to have a larger portion of the show devoted to this. I’m a big fan of The Instance podcast and Scott Johnson does a great job at involving his listeners. I’ve even had a couple of my e-mails and voicemails read on his show and it’s pretty exciting when that happens.

Dad jokes

Sometimes things are said on the show are presented as facts, that I feel are not quite true.

The lack of focus, I stop listening a while ago as despite being big fans of you guys, the actual show would too often lose track of the subject or current topic. While this is not Inherently a problem, in this instance I felt the quality of the shows suffered.

Only one episode per week but I understand.

And again I want to say, we sincerely appreciate the input. We will take your comments and suggestions to heart as we move forward this coming year.

Next question asked what you would like us to cover more of. I’m wasn’t too surprised with the results. Deck Building came out on top with 57.1% of the votes. New Player Issues came in second at 20.4%.

These two subjects are something we’re going to work on incorporating more of in the coming year. That’s one reason for SquishieDragon to join the show. She’s going to give us the opportunity to really start from scratch.

Finally we asked for any comments or what you wanted to say. Mostly there were thanks and appreciation expressed through this but we did get a few comments.

Maybe have an occasional episode with all three of you guys plus a guest.

Perhaps you could do more with the YouTube channel. Hearthstone doesn’t have a rule book, so maybe do some videos covering different mechanics. Spell power for example. How would a new player know that when an Auchenai Soul Priest changes healing spells to damage they get spell damage bonuses. Ways to interact with stealthed creatures, that they can be buffed, killed by Kodos, stolen by MC Tech. You could explain all the visual cues the game gives you, highlights on playable cards, sparkles on minions with spell damage. Just an idea to further help new players.

So overall I’m THRILLED with the response to the survey. I’m humbled by the responses. And if you still want to fill out the survey, you are welcome to do so at http://www.legendoftheinnkeeper.com/survey . I’ll leave it up for a little while longer.

We’re going to be discussing how to take these ideas and make the show better going forward.
